South Point and Ashbrook are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The South Point Red Raiders will head out on the road to face off against the Ashbrook Greenwave at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. South Point knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matchups -- so hopefully Ashbrook likes a good challenge.
Even though North Gaston scored an imposing 63 points on Tuesday, South Point still came out on top. South Point blew past North Gaston 83-63. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory South Point has posted against North Gaston since December 6, 2019.
South Point relied on the efforts of Greyson Kines, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals, and Jaishawn Woods, who scored 17 points along with five assists and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Graham Williams, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Ashbrook came tearing into Tuesday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They had just enough and edged Huss out 72-70. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
South Point has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. As for Ashbrook, their win bumped their record up to 15-2.
Things could have been worse for South Point, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 73-59 loss to Ashbrook in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Ashbrook's Issac Byers Jr, who scored 24 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Now that South Point knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
