This season hasn't been kind to the Clear Creek Golddiggers, who are still winless after their eighth match. They were outmatched by Gilpin County at home and fell 54-19. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Clear Creek in their matchups with Gilpin County: they've now lost five in a row.
Several Golddiggers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Elizabeth Rooney, who scored eight points along with four steals. Aerah Fulton was another key contributor, scoring no points along with 16 rebounds and two blocks.
Clear Creek bumped their record down to 0-8 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 17.4 points per game. As for Gilpin County, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clear Creek will face off against Vail Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Vail Christian comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. Gilpin County's road trip will continue as they head out to face Dawson School at 4:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Dawson School will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 287th, while Gilpin County is ranked 135th).
