Alhambra is on a three-game streak of home losses, Maryvale an eight-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change. The Alhambra Lions will take on the Maryvale Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Alhambra will be strutting in after a win while Maryvale will be coming in after a loss.
Last Friday, Alhambra was able to grind out a solid win over Camelback, taking the game 40-27. The victory was just what Alhambra needed coming off of a 53-27 defeat in their prior match.
Maryvale suffered their biggest loss since December 8, 2023 on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 79-37 loss at the hands of North. While losing is never fun, Maryvale can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 258th, while North is ranked 115th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Dalia Valdez, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Marianna Jennings, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds.
Alhambra's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-11. As for Maryvale, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-11.
Everything came up roses for Alhambra against Maryvale in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 as the squad secured a 71-26 win. Does Alhambra have another victory up their sleeve, or will Maryvale turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
