The West Field Longhorns will take on the Woods Cross Wildcats at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
On Friday, West Field got the win against Bear River by a conclusive 12-1.
Caymen Kap tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because West Field is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-6 otherwise.

At the plate, West Field got a big performance out of Kanyon Pratt, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Pratt is becoming a predictor of the Longhorns' success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 5-7 when he doesn't). Tyce Abbott was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.
West Field kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.2.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Woods Cross). They blew past Roy 14-2 on Friday. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Royals recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Beckham Stanger made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and four RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kason Lythgoe, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Beau Blackwell, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
West Field now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Woods Cross, their victory bumped their record up to 6-7.
