Baseball Recap: Rockdale Snags Fifth Win in Last Six Games

Rockdale barely beat Pflugerville Connally the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tigers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Cougars a 10-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.

Mason Lillard made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Slayde Harris was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Caldwell, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Rockdale was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .476. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Rockdale is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Pflugerville Connally, their defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 4-13.

Looking ahead, Rockdale will challenge Little River Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pflugerville Connally, they will welcome Liberal Arts & Science Academy - Austin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
