The Decatur Golden Gators will face off against the Federal Way Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Decatur is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
While Decatur's win against Auburn Mountainview wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Golden Gators had just enough and edged out the Lions 4-3. Winning may never get old, but the Golden Gators sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Decatur's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Spencer Holloway, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Another was Eric Havili, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Federal Way's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They came up short against Jefferson, falling 12-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Orlando Young made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Decatur's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-1-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Federal Way, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5.
Federal Way's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Decatur hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. It's a different story for Federal Way, though, as they've only averaged .258. Will they be able to contain Decatur's hitters?
Decatur was able to grind out a solid win over Federal Way in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 6-3. Do the Golden Gators have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
