The Penn Cambria Panthers will head out on the road to challenge the Bishop McCort Crushers at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Penn Cambria focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Wednesday.
Penn Cambria pushed their score all the way to 55, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 74-55 bruising from Westmont Hilltop. While losing is never fun, Penn Cambria can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 293rd, while Westmont Hilltop is ranked 93rd).
Despite the defeat, Penn Cambria saw an underclassman step up: Caden Gibbons scored 13 points along with two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Harrold, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Bishop McCort had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Bishop Carroll by a score of 65-55 on Friday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Penn Cambria has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-11 record this season. As for Bishop McCort, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-11.
Everything went Penn Cambria's way against Bishop McCort when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as Penn Cambria made off with a 72-49 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Penn Cambria since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
