Having just played yesterday, the Calhoun Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Central Lions at 5:30 p.m. on January 19th. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Calhoun has three straight wins, Central has 14 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Calhoun scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They blew past Dallas County, posting a 58-31 victory on the road. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Calhoun has managed all season.
Calhoun's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Kamelia Hunter, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Layla Gary, who scored 20 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gary has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Rachel Ray, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Central came up short against Calhoun last Thursday and fell 41-32. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Central in their matchups with Calhoun: they've now lost four in a row.
Calhoun's win bumped their record up to 7-10. As for Central, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 0-11.
Calhoun was able to grind out a solid victory over Central in their previous matchup last Thursday, winning 41-32. Does Calhoun have another victory up their sleeve, or will Central turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
