Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Holy Name

Holy Name waltzed into their match on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the St. Joseph Academy Jaguars. The Green Wave might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by ten runs or more this season.

Aubrey Stephens and Maura Mihalik did most of the damage at the plate: Stephens went a perfect 2-for-2 with seven RBI and one double, while Mihalik got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs Mihalik has posted since back in March. Anna Soos was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three runs and one stolen base.

Holy Name hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive contests.

Holy Name's win bumped their record up to 11-2. As for St. Joseph Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 11 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Holy Name will venture away from home to challenge Beaumont School at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Blue Streaks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.6 runs per game on average), something the Green Wave will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for St. Joseph Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against Magnificat at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Jaguars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Streaks have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
