The Benton Cardinals''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 22-0 walloping at the hands of Chillicothe. Benton lost against Chillicothe in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 40-21 score last time.
Boston Cook threw for 98 yards on 11 of 23 attempts. Treigh Nowak was his top target, picking up 73 receiving yards and no touchdowns. On the ground, Jaxson Rich rushed for 51 yards.
Among those leading the charge was Javon Kille, who rushed for 123 yards, and also picked up 69 receiving yards. Sol'jier Allen got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Benton's loss was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-2 Central and 9-4 Maryville (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 61.4% over those games). As for Chillicothe, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.
Benton will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Kearney at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. One thing working in Kearney's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last five contests. As for Chillicothe, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Richmond at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Missouri (Richmond is ranked 174th, while Chillicothe is ranked 164th).
