Tanner Wade made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Jonathan Piner was incredible, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Chase Roberson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, North Lenoir suffered their closest defeat since April 26, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of Greene Central by a score of 7-5. The loss was the Hawks' first of the season.
Like East Carteret, North Lenoir also got a great game from a two-way player: Garrett Byrd. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Byrd was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Byrd wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Wriston Honeycutt, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
East Carteret pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. As for North Lenoir, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. East Carteret has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like North Lenoir struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
