Basketball Recap: Middleton Sets Scoring Season-High Against Chamberlain

Middleton came up into this matchup off a tough 56-point loss last Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Chamberlain Storm by a score of 52-50 on Friday. One positive for the Tigers, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Despite the loss, Middleton still got an impressive performance from Laurie Julot, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds. Julot has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 16 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Izabell Reyes, who posted seven points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Middleton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 16 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Chamberlain found their leader in sophomore Ellayna Stephens, who had 40 points and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Stephens has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Dejesus, who put up eight points.

Middleton's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Chamberlain, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-3.

After both having extra time off, Middleton and Tampa Bay Tech will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 6:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for Chamberlain, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 38-28 victory against St. Petersburg Catholic on the 14th.
