The Spring Grove Rockets will venture away from home to face off against the Northeastern Bobcats at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
Things were looking good for Spring Grove after they put the first run on the board on Monday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They came up short against Dallastown, falling 7-1. The Rockets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Spring Grove saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Logan McMaster, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northeastern). They put the hurt on William Penn with a sharp 17-1 win on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Bobcats in their matchups with the Bearcats: they've now won six in a row.
Conner Rippo was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. He has become a key player for Northeastern: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Wilson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.
Northeastern always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .706. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.
Northeastern's record now sits at 8-6. As for Spring Grove, they now have a losing record of 7-8-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Spring Grove has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Northeastern struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Spring Grove suffered a grim 10-2 defeat to Northeastern in their previous matchup on April 9th. Can the Rockets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
