Calhan hasn't had much luck against Peyton recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Bulldogs will head out to square off against the Panthers at 11:00 a.m. This will be Calhan's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, Calhan turned things around against Trinidad on Friday. They walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Miners.
Liam Metzger made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Calhan's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-14-2 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Logan Johnson was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Crippen, who went 2-for-3 with two triples and one run.
Meanwhile, Peyton entered their tilt with Limon last Friday with eight consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with nine. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 11-10 W against the Badgers. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Like Calhan, Peyton also got a great game from a two-way player: Bryce Compton. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. Compton has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bryce Love, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Peyton's win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games. As for Calhan, their record now sits at 4-14-2.
Calhan might still be hurting after the 27-0 defeat they got from Peyton in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
