The Weber Warriors's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their sixth straight defeat. They were the victim of a rough 54-32 loss at the hands of Syracuse. While losing is never fun, Weber can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while Syracuse is ranked seventh).
Weber's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Abby Sayer, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and two steals, and Avery Shupe who scored six points.
Weber struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Syracuse racked up 13 assists.
Syracuse had a senior duo take command as Cortnie Barker dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds and Ariah Peterson scored 15 points along with two steals. It was the first time this season that Peterson scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Olivia Sorenson, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Weber has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 13 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for Syracuse, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-3.
Weber will head out on the road to take on Fremont at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Weber is coming into the match with 13 straight losses on the road, meaning Fremont will have to defend against a team hungry for a win. As for Syracuse, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Davis at 5:15 p.m. Syracuse is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
