2A District 2 recap September 17, 2013
Terence Sapp of Cedar Creek Christian ran for the longest rushing play in 2A District 2 this season against Bronson last week. Sapp's team lost to the Eagles as he sprinted for 98 yards on the play and finished with 113 in all.
Duval Charter added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Beacon of Hope Christian, 53-6. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Duval Charter's dynamic duo of Chris Brown and Damien McGhee proved tough for the Eagles to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Brown threw for 181 yards and 2 touchdowns and McGhee had 108 yards receiving.
Mike Hunter's team's dynamic duo of Brown and McGhee proved to be unstoppable against Beacon of Hope Christian, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Jacob Smith made the biggest impact on defense this week as Harvest Community defeated Faith Christian. He grabbed 2.0 sacks.
Lonnie Marts III was the best running back in the league this week. In 6 carries, he ran for 159 yards as the Warriors bested Bobby Hamilton's team. Teammate Bradley Bellingrath added to the ground attack by rushing for 142 yards.
Sapp was a passing and rushing force as Cedar Creek Christian lost to Bronson. Sapp's key target this week was Willlie Cummings, who caught 3 passes for 61 yards.
He went 10-23 with 1 interceptions.
McGhee was the best receiver in 2A District 2 this week as Duval Charter topped the Eagles.
Brown put up the best numbers in passing as the Panthers bested Beacon of Hope Christian.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Duval Charter's Brown and McGhee have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-11 quarterback Brown has thrown for 500 yards this season, while McGhee has 13 catches for 223 yards. Harvest Community's Marts III leads the league in rushing yards with 315.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when the Panthers and Jamie Gamel's team face off next week.
As it stands, the Saints are in third, while Duval Charter is in first.
The league will see a high scoring game when Cedar Creek Christian and the Panthers face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Saints comes in having scored 80 this season, while Duval Charter has scored 168. Cedar Creek Christian scored 12 points last week as it fell to Cameron Porch's team.
Lonnie Marts' team moved up to 483 from 511 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Warriors climbed the ranks as a result of defeating the Lions 56-6.
