Softball Recap: Leo Sets Scoring Season-High Against New Haven

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Leo). They put the hurt on the New Haven Bulldogs with a sharp 16-0 win on Wednesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Luci Schott made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ella Moore, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Kortney Dowty was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Leo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Haven only posted an OBP of .125.

Leo has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for New Haven, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Leo will head out to square off against Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Saints have averaged an impressive 9.3 runs per game this season. As for New Haven, they will head out on the road to take on Fort Wayne Snider at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.73 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
