Noah White made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Calais is 5-2 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-6 otherwise. White was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
White wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Parker Cole, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Washington Academy made easy work of Calais on Wednesday and carried off an 11-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won 12 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Calais, Washington Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Parker Cates. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Cates has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Washington Academy got a massive performance out of Jayden Mahar, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-3. Those five RBI gave Mahar a new career-high. Colby Moholland was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two runs.
Washington Academy lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Washington Academy's win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Calais, their record now sits at 7-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Calais has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Washington Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Calais suffered a grim 11-4 defeat to Washington Academy when the teams last played on Wednesday. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
