III Section VI recap October 22, 2013
Thunderbird extended the longest winning streak in III Section VI this week by beating Washington, 34-27. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Shadow Mountain was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in the league. The Matadors defeated Central 38-6 earlier in the week.
Shannon Burton was a passing and rushing force as Moon Valley fell to Alhambra. He completed 8 passes for 138 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 198 yards. Burton's favorite target this week was Tim Adams, who caught 3 passes for 78 yards.
James Rasmussen threw for 196 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Rasmussen put up the best numbers through the air as the Rams lost to Thunderbird. Rasmussen's favorite target this week was Markus Montelongo, who caught 2 passes for 101 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Tempe's Emanuel Gant and Massiah Smith have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-3 quarterback Gant has thrown for 2,170 yards this season, while Smith has 40 catches for 845 yards. Scottie Jordan from Phoenix Christian leads the league in rushing with 1,531 yards.
A big matchup in III Section VI this week will be when Brent Wittenwyler's team takes on the Lions. The Chiefs are in fourth place, while Alhambra is in second place.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Thunderbird takes on Frank Lautt's team. The Chiefs have allowed 186 points this season, while the Lions have given up 200. Thunderbird allowed 27 points last week as it defeated Washington.
Shadow Mountain took down the Bobcats 38-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
