The New Caney Eagles will face off against the College Park Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing isn't great for New Caney: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while College Park has snatched up seven consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season.
New Caney is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 56-0 victory over Cleveland. The Eagles pushed the score to 42-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Indians had no chance of recovering from.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to COREY JOHNSON and JOHNNY GOMEZ. JOHNSON rushed for 192 yards and two TDs on only 13 carries while GOMEZ rushed for 122 yards and a pair of scores on only 13 carries. That's the most rushing touchdowns JOHNSON has posted since back in November of 2024.
New Caney was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 410 rushing yards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 52.8 rushing yards per game earlier this season, but in their last five matchups they've averaged 242.
New Caney didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as EMON BROWN, JAIDEN JORDAN, and KAMERON CLAY picked up one apiece. BROWN got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, while College Park put up plenty of points last Thursday, the same can't be said for Cleveland. The Cavaliers really took it to the Indians for the full four quarters, racking up a 70-0 win. The Cavaliers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by 27 points or more this season.
New Caney better focus on containing Camden Hughes and Kaylen Stephens as the pair were huge in College Park's win. Hughes threw for 241 yards and four touchdowns on only 12 passes, while Stephens rushed for 145 yards and one TD on only nine carries. Hughes has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last four times he's played. Rodrigo Bravo Jr was in the mix too, providing College Park with two scores.
College Park's victory bumped their record up to 9-0. As for New Caney, their win bumped their record up to 2-7.
New Caney was taken down by College Park 46-13 in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Hughes, who threw for 149 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also rushed for 57 yards and one TD on only five carries.
