Elgin/Pope John put the finishing touches on their eighth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They blew past Stuart 70-35 on the road. Given Elgin/Pope John's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 45th, while Stuart is ranked 187th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Elgin/Pope John's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Callie Heithoff led the charge by scoring 13 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Heithoff has scored all season. Ashlynne Charf was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Meanwhile, West Holt came up short against Plainview on Tuesday and fell 47-39. West Holt has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
The win makes it two in a row for Elgin/Pope John and bumps their season record up to 12-1. As for West Holt, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.
Elgin/Pope John won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, slipping by West Holt 41-40. The rematch might be a little tougher for Elgin/Pope John since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
