Westwood is on a six-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Woodville is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Westwood Panthers will take on the Woodville Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Thursday, everything went Westwood's way against Crockett as Westwood made off with a 48-22 win. Given Westwood's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 399th, while Crockett is ranked 867th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Westwood found their leader in underclassman Kavian Bryant, who rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries, and also threw for 170 yards and three touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Lamarion Goodwyn, who rushed for 54 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries.
Meanwhile, Woodville took their game at home two weeks ago with ease, bagging a 48-21 win over Crockett.
Zayon Williams was the offensive standout of the matchup as he rushed for 144 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. Christian Bean did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 80 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Their wins bumped Westwood to 8-1 and Woodville to 6-3.
Westwood ended up a good deal behind Woodville when the teams last played back in November of 2022, losing 19-0. Will Westwood have more luck at home instead of on the road?
