There's no place like home for the Central Bears, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Saturday. They managed a 68-64 victory over Springstead on Tuesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Central's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jeroen "jd" Watson, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Watson is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of David Villarroel, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Loss or not, Springstead got some senior leadership from Nick Cordero and Austin Nicholson. Cordero scored 15 points along with seven rebounds, while Nicholson. scored 11 points along with seven assists and two steals. Another player making a difference was Niko Cordello, who scored eight points.
Even though they lost, Springstead smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Central only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Central's win was their 17th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.9 points per game. As for Springstead, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.
Central will be playing in front of their home fans against Hernando at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Hernando focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Wednesday. As for Springstead, they will head out on the road to face off against Nature Coast Tech at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Nature Coast Tech is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
