Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Booker T. Washington walked away with it. They walked away with a 44-37 victory over the Eagles on Wednesday. Given Booker T. Washington's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 11th, while Pine Forest is ranked 80th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Chamiah Francis was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 23 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last nine times she's played. Da?rieon Gilbert was another key contributor, scoring four points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Choctawhatchee narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Fort Walton Beach 34-32.
Booker T. Washington's victory bumped their record up to 20-1. As for Choctawhatchee, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.
Booker T. Washington beat Choctawhatchee 52-39 when the teams last played back in January. The rematch might be a little tougher for Booker T. Washington since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
