The Marcellus Mustangs are taking a road trip to square off against the Chittenango Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday. Marcellus will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Marcellus and Westhill have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Thursday. The Mustangs walked away with an 8-4 win over the Warriors.
Kendall LaManche made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, Jordan O'Connor was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Mariah Kolm was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 16 runs the game before, Chittenango was a bit more limited in their matchup on Thursday. They fell 5-2 to Whitesboro. The contest marked the Bears' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Chittenango saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Danica Oppenheimer, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Marcellus' victory was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Chittenango, the loss snapped their winning streak at 13 games and leaves them with a 13-2 record.
Both Marcellus and Chittenango just can't seem to miss. The Mustangs have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.1 hits per game. However, it's not like Chittenango struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 2.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Marcellus suffered a grim 17-1 defeat to Chittenango in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
