The Lyndhurst Golden Bears gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 58-17 win over Garfield. With Lyndhurst ahead 40-2 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Leading Lyndhurst to victory were Sam Mayer and Asya Akar. Mayer scored 18 points along with five steals, while Akar dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Juliana Gonzalez, who scored two points along with three steals.
Lyndhurst pushed their record up to 1-0 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Garfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lyndhurst will challenge Waldwick at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for Garfield, they will head out on the road to face off against Elmwood Park at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
