The Washington County Golden Hawks pushed their score all the way to 68 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a serious blow against Westside, falling 103-68. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (64), Washington County still had to take the loss.
Several Golden Hawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Marquavion Cooper, who scored 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamonta Durden, who scored 11 points.
LaVonta Ivery was his usual excellent self, scoring 19 points along with six rebounds and five assists for Westside. DeMarco Middleton was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with two steals and two blocks.
Washington County has not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-12 record this season. As for Westside, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-3.
Washington County will be playing at home against the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Georgia (Laney is ranked 244th, while the Golden Hawks are ranked 235th). As for Westside, they will head out on the road to challenge the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
