The Atrisco Heritage Academy Jaguars will face off against the Albuquerque Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Atrisco Heritage Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Albuquerque will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Atrisco Heritage Academy extended their winning streak to three on Saturday. The Jaguars never let Del Norte get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. Considering the Jaguars have won six games by more than nine runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Savannah Lujan made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Aalyiah Chavez was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 12 contests. Another player making a difference was Jazelle Romero, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Atrisco Heritage Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are a perfect 12-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Albuquerque faced Los Lunas in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Bulldogs came up short against the Tigers, falling 18-8. The Bulldogs' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Annika Stanley made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 2-for-3. Honey Fields was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run.
Atrisco Heritage Academy's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Albuquerque, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 11-7.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Atrisco Heritage Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .506. However, it's not like Albuquerque struggles in that department as they've averaged .530. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Atrisco Heritage Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Albuquerque when the teams last played back in March, winning 7-4. Do the Jaguars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
