The Heritage Christian Defenders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 46-31 to Calumet Christian. Heritage Christian found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post 11 fewer assists than your opponent.
Heritage Christian lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Sydney Lenting, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Paityn Poortinga, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Calumet Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Makenna Landkrohn, who scored 17 points along with six assists and six steals. Landkrohn is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Anna Prim was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds.
Heritage Christian has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for Calumet Christian, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Heritage Christian will take on La Lumiere at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. La Lumiere presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Heritage Christian in Indiana (La Lumiere is ranked 108th, while Heritage Christian is ranked 384th). As for Calumet Christian, they will be playing at home against Elkhart Christian Academy at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Elkhart Christian Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday.
