West Craven is 1-9 against New Bern since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The West Craven Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the New Bern Bears at 6:00 p.m. West Craven will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Last Tuesday, West Craven took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 51-23 win over Havelock. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 29-8.
West Craven can attribute much of their success to Shalawn Yates, who scored 20 points. The matchup was Yates' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Torvonyah Heggie, who scored 12 points.
Even though New Bern has not done well against Ashley recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. New Bern snuck past Ashley with a 41-36 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for New Bern as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
West Craven's victory lifted them to 3-0 while Havelock's loss dropped them down to 1-3.
West Craven beat New Bern 49-36 when the teams last played on Friday. The rematch might be a little tougher for West Craven since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
