The Benson Bunnies pushed their score all the way to 55 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 68-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of Millard North. Benson lost against Millard North in their previous head to head back in December of 2021, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 60-56 score last time.
Mckenzie Lewis and Jesani Green certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Lewis dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Green dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Ahmani Klabunde, who scored 13 points along with eight assists and four steals.
Leading Millard North to victory were Emma Vander plaats and Avril Smith. Vander plaats scored 13 points, while Smith dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 rebounds. Smith continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Sara Harley was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Benson's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Millard North, they pushed their record up to 4-1 with that victory, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Benson won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Lincoln East on December 16th. Millard North will be home for the holidays to greet Norfolk on Wednesday. Norfolk comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
