Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Canyon Springs

Canyon Springs had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They walked away with a 57-50 win over the Ramona Rams. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Cougars also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.

Canyon Springs had a senior duo take command as Derek Williams dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten boards and Elijah Stephenson went 5 of 12 on his way to 12 points along with five boards and three steals. With that strong performance, Williams is now averaging an impressive 8.1 boards per game. Gabriel Serrato was another key player, putting up seven points.

Canyon Springs smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in nine consecutive matches.

Several Rams players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Troy Terrell, who posted 12 points along with five rebounds and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Green, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 boards.

Canyon Springs has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.6 points per game. As for Ramona, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Canyon Springs and Heritage will compete for holiday cheer at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Heritage has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Ramona and Woodcrest Christian will round out the year against one another at at 11:00 a.m. on December 27th. Woodcrest Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61 points per game this season.
