Basketball Recap: Evergreen Falls Despite Big Games from Addie Mcevers and Elle Buenning

Evergreen lost against D'Evelyn back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Evergreen Cougars fell just short of the D'Evelyn Jaguars by a score of 55-53. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 138th, while the Jaguars are ranked 35th).

Evergreen's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Elle Buenning, who went 9 of 17 en route to 19 points along with seven boards and six assists, and Addie McEvers, who went 8 for 15 on her way to 20 points. McEvers is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Taylor Bailey, who posted four points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists.

D'Evelyn found their leader in sophomore Colleen Monahan, who went 6 of 8 from beyond the arc on her way to 28 points and six boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Monahan has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lyla Nagy, who had nine points and four steals.

Evergreen's record now sits at 6-8. As for D'Evelyn, the win keeps them at an undefeated 13-0.

Evergreen will challenge Golden at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Golden has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for D'Evelyn, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the D'Evelyn Jaguars challenge the Littleton Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. D'Evelyn is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.3 points per game this season.
