The Lassen Grizzlies will head out on the road to face off against the Pierce Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lassen entered their tilt with Anderson with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Lassen blew past Anderson 39-8 at home. Lassen pushed the score to 39-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Anderson cut but never quite recovered from.
Lassen's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dathen Moore led the charge by picking up 111 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while also punching in two touchdowns on the ground. Deshon Moore and his 137 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Lassen's win.
Winters typically have all the answers at home, but on Friday Pierce proved too difficult a challenge. Pierce put the hurt on Winters with a sharp 32-7 victory. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Pierce.
Pierce got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was David Aguirre out in front who rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 32 receiving yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Burnum, who threw for 75 yards and two touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Winters to a paltry 226 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Pierce's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out three times before it was all said and done. In that department, Jose Pinon was the leader with two sacks.
Lassen pushed their record up to 5-5 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 38.3 points per game. As for Pierce, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Lassen has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 252.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Pierce struggles in that department as they've been averaging 231.5 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
