Basketball Recap: Jace Roberts' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Union Grove over Big Sandy

It was a proper cat-fight when Union Grove challenged Big Sandy on Friday. The Union Grove Lions received a blow as they fell 66-51 to the Big Sandy Wildcats. The Lions lost against the Wildcats in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 74-30 score last time.

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jace Roberts, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 boards. Roberts is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hudson Wightman, who posted 15 points and five steals.

Malijah Francis was his usual excellent self, putting up 28 points in addition to five boards and four steals for Big Sandy. That's the most points Francis has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Treyvian Coleman, who had 14 points.

Union Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 13-11. As for Big Sandy, their victory bumped their record up to 6-12.

Union Grove didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 66-23 win against Linden-Kildare on the 7th. As for Big Sandy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 75-51 loss against Hawkins on the 7th.
