Cascade had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Everything went their way against the Owen Valley Patriots on Monday as they made off with an 11-1 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Cadets, who have now won 13 matches in a row.
Grace Gray made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Cascade got a big performance out of Caitlin Gryszowka, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double. That's the most RBI Gryszowka has posted since May 1st. Ava Allen also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Cascade kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in 13 consecutive contests.
Cascade's victory bumped their record up to 19-5. As for Owen Valley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season.
