Basketball Game Preview: Trinidad Miners vs. Kim/Branson Mustangs

Trinidad hasn't had much luck against Kim/Branson recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Trinidad Miners will venture away from home to challenge the Kim/Branson Mustangs at 2:00 p.m. Kim/Branson took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Trinidad, who comes in off a win.

Trinidad is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They were the clear victor by a 63-40 margin over Centennial back in December of 2024. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Miners.

Trinidad found their leader in sophomore Isaiah Moreno, who posted 21 points. The dominant performance gave Moreno a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Andres Romero, who put up 12 points.

Meanwhile, Kim/Branson lost to Primero on the road by a 65-47 margin on Friday. The game marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Trinidad will need focus on slowing down Cameron Rosas, one of several Kim/Branson players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 13 points along with seven boards and five steals. Rosas is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Kolter Cranson was another key player, putting up nine points.

Even though they lost, Kim/Branson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Trinidad now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Kim/Branson, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.

Trinidad was dealt a bruising 64-34 defeat at the hands of Kim/Branson in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Kim/Branson's David Gamez, who went 12 of 19 on his way to 25 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
