Spring Valley has gone 9-1 against South Charleston recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Timberwolves will challenge the Black Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Spring Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Spring Valley had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Parkersburg on Monday. The Timberwolves never let the Big Reds get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Timberwolves in their matchups with the Big Reds: they've now won nine in a row.
Jake Vanarsdale was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Garrett Wagoner, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Parker Phillips, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Spring Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, South Charleston entered their tilt with Oak Hill on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Red Devils 2-0.
South Charleston saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Akers, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Gavin Young also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Spring Valley pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for South Charleston, their record now sits at 5-3.
Spring Valley's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's matchup. The Timberwolves have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for South Charleston, though, as they've been averaging only 1.4 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Spring Valley continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Spring Valley's way against South Charleston in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Spring Valley made off with an 11-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Timberwolves since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
