Basketball Recap: Hammond Morton Falls Despite Big Games from Lebron Hill and Michael Woods

Hammond Morton lost against Gary West Side back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Hammond Morton Governors fell 62-51 to the Gary West Side Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Governors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 220th, while the Cougars are ranked 92nd).

Hammond Morton's loss came despite strong showings from Michael Woods and LeBron Hill. Woods went 10 of 16 on his way to 24 points and five boards, while Hill dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Woods' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Holland Harris was another key player, putting up four points and 13 boards.

Hammond Morton's loss dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Gary West Side, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hammond Morton will challenge Michigan City at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. Michigan City is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.4 points per game this season. As for Gary West Side, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Gary West Side Cougars duke it out with the East Chicago Central Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. East Chicago Central knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Gary West Side likes a good challenge.
