The Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders are taking a road trip to challenge the Charlotte Christian Knights at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Cardinal Gibbons: 3, Charlotte Christian: 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Cardinal Gibbons fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Jordan on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 8-7. The defeat continues a trend for the Crusaders in their meetings with the Falcons: they've now lost six in a row.
Cardinal Gibbons got a good showing from Max Boyatt, who struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.

At the plate, Cam Tarkenton was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Riedel, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, on Thursday Charlotte Christian's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 6-5 W against Wesleyan Christian Academy.
Wade Thompson looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Charlotte Christian let Cohen Bettencourt and Owen Farrell run wild. Bettencourt went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI, while Farrell scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3. That's the most stolen bases Farrell has posted since back in March of 2024. Hudson Simmons also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Cardinal Gibbons now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Charlotte Christian, their record is now 6-0.
Cardinal Gibbons' speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's match. Cardinal Gibbons has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Charlotte Christian, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Cardinal Gibbons continue to outrun the ball?
Cardinal Gibbons might still be hurting after the 8-2 loss they got from Charlotte Christian when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Can Cardinal Gibbons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
