The Amherst Broncos entered their tilt with the Overton Eagles with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Amherst claimed a resounding 66-35 win over Overton at home. The result was nothing new for Amherst, who have now won five games by 20 points or more so far this season.
Tayje Hadwiger was his usual excellent self, scoring 17 points along with six rebounds. That makes it nine consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Amherst's points. Another player making a difference was Gavin Davis, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds.
Overton lost on Friday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Dawsen Mccarter, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Mccarter pulled down eight or more rebounds. Jace Jeffries was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Even though they lost, Overton were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Amherst's win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 24.17 points. As for Overton, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Amherst will face off against Alma at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Alma is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. Overton won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Maxwell at 5:00 p.m. on January 6th. Maxwell will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 239th, while Overton is ranked 117th).
