5A Centennial recap October 22, 2013
Cherry Creek added to the longest winning streak in 5A Centennial this week by beating Grandview, 21-0. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Bruins.
Eaglecrest fell to Cherokee Trail 41-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Hayden Porter made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Wolves lost to Cherry Creek. The 5-foot-9 senior racked up 2 sacks.
Cameron Smith was a force in the backfield as the Cougars topped the Raptors.
Smith was a passing and rushing force as Cherokee Trail bested Eaglecrest. Smith's key target this week was Evan White, who caught 2 passes for 50 yards.
Khalil Jenkins was the best wideout in the league this week as Overland beat Smoky Hill. Jenkins tallied 4 receptions for 100 yards. AJ Roper helped Overland's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 34 yards.
Overland's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Trailblazers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Austin Conway has thrown for 1,683 yards and 18 touchdowns this season, while Jenkins has 31 catches for 614 yards. Conway also leads the league in rushing with 991 yards.
The marquee game in 5A Centennial this week will be the clash between the Trailblazers and Monte Thelen's team. Overland enters the contest ranked 12th in the state, while the Cougars ranks seventh.
Cherokee Trail's Smith needs only 13 yards against Seth Replogle's team next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 140 carries Smith has put up 987 yards this year.
The Cougars led the league in scoring this week by notching 41 points on Mike Schmitt's team. Smith ran for 269 yards during the win.
