The Montrose Red Hawks will take on the Summit Tigers in a tournament on Friday. Montrose has given up an average of 9.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Montrose's tournament run continued when they took on Alamosa on Thursday. Montrose took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of Alamosa.
Ryan Pankey was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Gleason, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, while Summit put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Eagle Valley. Summit put the hurt on Eagle Valley with a sharp 11-0 victory.
Sam Eldredge made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gus Bradford, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Hogan Tobias was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Summit always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eagle Valley only posted an OBP of .167.
The win got Summit back to even at 1-1. As for Montrose, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
Montrose came out on top in a nail-biter against Summit in their previous matchup back in March of 2023, sneaking past 10-9. Does Montrose have another victory up their sleeve, or will Summit turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
