The Cheyenne Desert Shields will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Valley Vikings at 6:30 p.m. on December 15th. Hopefully Cheyenne focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine last Monday.
Last Monday, Cheyenne didn't have too much trouble with Eldorado on the road as they won 35-20. The win was just what Cheyenne needed coming off of a 63-7 loss in their prior matchup.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cheyenne to victory, but perhaps none more so than Elissa Sambo, who scored five points along with nine steals. Those nine steals set a new season-high mark for Sambo. Nita Franklin was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Valley scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They came out on top against Del Sol by a score of 68-59. The victory was nothing new for Valley as they're now sitting on four straight.
Valley found their leader in underclassman Anaya Williams, who scored 27 points along with three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Williams has scored at least 25% of Valley's points. Another player making a difference was Destiny Haliburton, who scored 15 points.
Cheyenne's win ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-3. As for Valley, they pushed their record up to 6-2 with that victory, which was their third straight at home.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Cheyenne have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 19.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 21.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Cheyenne against Valley in their previous meeting back in November of 2018 as the team secured a 60-29 victory. Does Cheyenne have another victory up their sleeve, or will Valley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
