The Holmes Aces gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They strolled past Pamlico County with points to spare, taking the game 54-35. Given Holmes' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 52nd, while Pamlico County is ranked 398th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Holmes found their leader in underclassman Chloe Chappell, who scored 26 points. Liza Bond was another key contributor, scoring 8 points along with 7 assists and 7 rebounds.
Pamlico County's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kyliyah Barber, who scored 9 points along with 8 steals, and Dania Galvan-Veliz who scored 4 points along with 10 rebounds.
Holmes' victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Pamlico County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.
Holmes will head out on the road to face off against Bertie at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pamlico County, they will be playing at home against West Carteret at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully West Carteret focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 35 on Tuesday.
