The Vero Beach Indians will face off against the Treasure Coast Titans at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Treasure Coast will be up against a hot Vero Beach squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Indians' pitchers stepped up to hand Synergy Magnet K12 an 18-0 shutout on Wednesday.
Lathan Willis was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Willis was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lissette Ascencio, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Haley Brown was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Vero Beach hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 4-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Treasure Coast came into Tuesday's contest having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on Lincoln Park Academy with a sharp 14-0 victory on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Titans needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
Treasure Coast got a massive performance out of Callie Smith, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Adriana Martinez, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs.
Vero Beach pushed their record up to 12-10 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Treasure Coast, their win bumped their record up to 8-14.
Vero Beach skirted past Treasure Coast 1-0 in their previous meeting on Monday. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Titans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
