Powdersville has been on the road for two straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Palmetto Mustangs at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Powdersville knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matches -- so hopefully the Mustangs like a good challenge.
Last Friday, Powdersville faced the Hurricanes in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Powdersville was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 65-64 to the Hurricanes. Powdersville has not had much luck with the Hurricanes recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite their defeat, Powdersville saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Nick Sweet, who scored 17 points, was perhaps the best of all. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sweet has scored all season. Jaleel McGee was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with four steals and three blocks.
Meanwhile, Palmetto suffered a tough 76-54 defeat at the hands of the Fury on Friday. While losing is never fun, Palmetto can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 232nd, while the Fury are ranked 82nd).
Powdersville's defeat ended a nine-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 19-6. As for Palmetto, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 13 of their last 14 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-20 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Powdersville against the Mustangs in their previous matchup back in January as the squad secured a 85-50 victory. With Powdersville ahead 49-21 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
