The Anna-Jonesboro Wildcats will take on the Harrisburg Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
Anna-Jonesboro is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering DuQuoin just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 12-1 to the Indians. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Wildcats have suffered since March 21st.
Anna-Jonesboro saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trevor Goins, who went 1-for-2 with one double. Jeffrey Campbell also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Harrisburg had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They walked away with a 13-9 victory over the Rangers.
Maddux Smothers made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Aidan Hankins was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ian Crabb, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Harrisburg's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-10. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Anna-Jonesboro, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-11.
Anna-Jonesboro couldn't quite get it done against Harrisburg in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-0. Will the Wildcats have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
