For the first time this season, Haltom will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Tuesday. They will welcome the Arlington Colts at 7:00 p.m. Haltom is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
While Haltom didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Rio Vista 9-3 on Saturday. Considering the Buffalos have won six games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Ethan Salinas made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Salinas was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Haltom was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .529. The last time their batting average was this high was in their last 15 contests.
Meanwhile, Arlington came up short against Centennial on Saturday and fell 6-3. The Colts haven't had much luck with the Spartans recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Arlington also got a good showing from Angel Hernandez, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Hernandez has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Gannon Howard was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Taylor, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double.
Haltom has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. Arlington's loss dropped their record down to 5-8.
Arlington's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Haltom hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .359. It's a different story for Arlington, though, as they've only averaged .255. Will they be able to contain Haltom's hitters?
Haltom suffered a grim 10-3 defeat to Arlington in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Haltom avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
