The Morton Potters will square off against the Bartlett Hawks at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Morton will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Morton is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 20-1 margin over Streator on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Cameron Crawford made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Crawford was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Hudson Lovell was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Brandon Sieben, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI.
Morton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Saturday Bartlett sidestepped Wheaton-Warrenville South for a 5-4 victory.
Sean O'Reilley looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Bartlett's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Josh Colaizzi, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Colaizzi is becoming a predictor of Bartlett's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-2-1 when he doesn't).
Bartlett's victory bumped their record up to 2-3-1. As for Morton, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Morton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Bartlett struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
